This 4-poster bed was originally made for The Catholic High School of Baltimore‘s production of “A Christmas Carol.” Because it’s such a large piece, I wanted to make it so it could fold up in both the wings offstage and in storage. Unfortunately, the bed “mattress” fit too snugly (i.e. you have to fight to make it fit) for it to be practical to have it folded up during a show. Despite that hiccup, I was very excited about how well the bed folded up to roughly 12 inches wide. The whole thing is on wheels to make it easier for the stage crew to move it. This bed has since been used in TCHS’s production of “The Sound of Music” and is likely to appear in future shows as well.
