Graveyard Tombstones

In the Fall of 2019, The Catholic High School of Baltimore performed “Arsenic and Old Lace” and the show mentions characters walking through a graveyard. I was asked to create a handful of tombstones similar to Scrooge’s Tombstone from “A Christmas Carol a few years prior. I wanted to create a few different shapes for variety and used the tombstones from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion as inspiration. Continuing to use names relevant to the event as I did with the Wicked Woods tombstones, the names on the tombstones for “Arsenic and Old Lace” were characters from previous Catholic High shows that some of the seniors had portrayed (except for the one with my name on it). I coated each rigid foam tombstone with monster mud, but for these tombstones, I made two different shades of grey monster mud. I used one shade as the primary tombstone color, but smeared some of the other as an accent. I really like how that worked out. Another modification from previous efforts was to cut some of the bottoms of the tombstones at a slight angle to give the impression they were starting to settle into the ground. Finally, I aged them up a bit by painting moss and other shading.
